Inference rule

An "inference rule" concept is important for understanding expert systems. An inference rule is a statement that has two parts, an if-clause and a then-clause. Rules provide the knowledge so expert systems can find solutions to diagnostic and prescriptive problems. An expert system's rulebase is made up of many inference rules.
